Vivian Giang is a senior staff editor on the business desk at The New York Times. Previously, she was a freelance writer and editor focusing on how the modern workplace has changed the way we work and live. She is also an adjunct professor at NYU Stern School of Business. Vivian enjoys stories about people who broke the rules, because the rules were not written for them. She is among those whom Westerners call “boat people,” but she prefers the term “oceanic refugees.” She was born in Vietnam, can speak the language fluently and read enough of it to get by.
